About this location

Poker Flat Research Range is located approximately 30 miles north of Fairbanks on the Steese Highway. It is operated by the Geophysical Institute under contract to NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, which is part of the Goddard Space Flight Center. Poker Flat is the world's only scientific rocket launching facility owned by a university. Research at the facility focuses on the aurora and other atmospheric studies. Public tours of the facility are offered in the summer.
