CREATIVE NEEDLERS
Things were going round & round at UWA Creative Needlers on Wednesday, April16. Freida Townshend graciously hosted once again. Cam Carlson presented a demo on making Wagon Wheel rugs. Word has it that this craft came over from Scandinavia and was often done by pioneer women as they traveled west in covered wagons. If you are interested in some basic information on this form of rug making call Cam and she will mail you the handout.
Creative Needlers will meet again on Wednesday, May 21 from 1 to 3PM, at Frieda Towshend's home, 4649 Princeton Drive (479-2898). Give a call if you have any questions (Cam 479-2348) or if you have a needle art form you would like to share with the group. Newcomers and ÒoldcomersÓ are always welcome!
SALAD LUNCHEON
The Salad Luncheon group meets once a month at a memberÕs home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess provides beverage, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. ItÕs a fun way to meet with friends and relax
Cynthia Dorman hosted the April salad luncheon. Cynthia reportsÕ ÒAprilÕs lunch was delayed for a week because of the surprise snow. Most everyone made it on the new date, but we missed those who couldnÕt reschedule.Ó
The May salad luncheon will be at Mariclare Langan's home at 576 Hilltop Avenue at noon on Wednesday, May 21st. Please phone Mariclare to RSVP at 479-2332.
Barbara Braley will host the June salad luncheon on Tuesday, June 17th.
The July luncheon date is open, so we are looking for someone to host. If you would like to be ourJuly hostess, pleasegive Cynthia Dorman a call at457-4428 and together you can set the date.
WALK/SKI GROUP
Women interested in walking with the group this summer should contact Cynthia Dorman (457-4428) in May (and perhaps into June). If there is interest, the Monday/Wednesday/Friday 10:30 gathering at the Moore Street entrance to Pioneer Park can continue through the summer, or another time and place can be chosen.
Elizabeth Shapland will return at the end of August and will welcome input about the best time and place to meet for a walk, to watch the colors changing in the fall.
INTERNATIONAL DINERS
International Diners is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast. The participants are asked to choose a month they will host a meal and decide upon a cuisine theme. Those whose homes are unable accommodate a dinner party may partner with someone who can. When the theme and date are announced, diners interested in attending contact the host and indicate if they are bringing a guest. The host plans a menu and each diner receives one dish to prepare. The cost of the meal is divided evenly among the participants. Every dinner offers a unique culinary experience with an extensive variety of dishes to savor.
The May gathering of the International Diners will be on Sunday, May 18th, from 5-9pm at the home of Joy Morrison. The cuisine will be South African. Joy says, ÒIt will be outdoors on our deck because we will braai (bar-b-que) some things. And because we have a small house.Ó
If you are interested in participating, try to RSVP to Joy by May 11. JoyÕs email address is joyflomor@gmail.com or call 474-8328. She will respond with a recipe and directions to her home.
