STRUT YOUR FAIRBANKS FASHIONS
Make sure YOU get in on the fun! Due to popular demand, The University WomenÕs Association and the WomenÕs Center will again be staging the Fabulous Fairbanks Fashion Show for the UAF New Faculty Orientation on Monday, August 18th from 12:30-1:00 pm at the Wood Center ballroom. Mark your calendar, and contact Kayt Sunwood (phone: 474-6311 or email: kayt.sunwood@uaf.edu ) to assure your spot in the fashion stage line-up.

For those of you who missed the fun last year, in 2007, we revived the UWA comic fashion show featuring ÒFairbanks wearÓ for the entertainment and enlightenment of new University faculty. Again this year, UWA president, Kayt Sunwood will model her clothing and equipment for research trips/travel to remote villages by small aircraft. ÊWe are counting on Barbara Braley modeling early morning dog walking fashions as well as quick-change gear for teachers facing recess below zero.

What Fairbanks Fashions will you model for new faculty this year?

Contact Kayt with a description of what you will be modeling so we can fit you into the line-up. This is a not-to-be-missed event, so call Kayt right away. so she can develop the list of models, descriptions of what they will be modeling, the line up for Òwalking the stageÓ and the text for the Fabulous Fairbanks Fashion Show extravaganza!

SALAD LUNCHEON
The Salad Luncheon group meets once a month at a memberÕs home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess provides beverage, bread andÊdessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. ItÕs a fun way to meet with friends and relax

Helen Howard writes: The June salad lunch was held at Barbara Braley's interesting owner-built house off Gilmore Trail. It had a certain sparkle to it that I observed when I arrived. It turned out that Alan Braley had painted the entire home over the weekend, and what a complicated job that appeared to me to be! The food was great, with Barbara's gazpacho to start. We had a delightful time and also enjoyed the little white finch that watched the whole proceedings and commented in whispered chirps.

The July salad luncheon will take place at noon on Tuesday, July 8th at a restaurant. This change of pace was the brain child of Mariclare Langan. WeÕre going to ChenaÕs Alaskan Grill just past the RiverÕs Edge cottages, at 4200 Boat Street. The restaurant is in West Fairbanks and can be seen from the Chena River bridge where the Parks Highway crosses the river.

In addition to a dining room, the restaurant has a large deck on the river, so letÕs hope for a sunny day.
Helen Howard says, ÒWe have booked a table for eight, and so far we know of four - maybe five - people coming, so please RSVP if you would like to join us. Friends are also welcome.Ó

ÒTo get there, you may take Boat Street, opposite the Fred Meyer-West turning on Airport Way and follow it until you get there. I suggest that you bring a jacket, as our table will be on the deck with a nice view of the river.Ó

To RSVP, please telephone Mariclare at 479-2332 or e-mail Helen Howard at hmh@acsalaska.net .

The August luncheon date is open, so we are looking for someone to host. If you would like to be our AugustÊÊ hostess, either email Helen Howard at hmh@acsalaska.net or leave a telephone message at 488-2314 andÊtogether you canÊset the date.

GAEL MURAKAMI
Long time UWA member, Gael Murakami will show her work at a First Friday Artist Reception on July 4 from 5 to 8 pm at the Alaska House, 1003 Cushman Street in Fairbanks.

INTERNATIONAL DINERS
International Diners is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast. The participants are asked to choose a month they will host a meal and decide upon a cuisine theme. Those whose homes are unable accommodate a dinner party may partner with someone who can. When the theme and date are announced, diners interested in attending contact the host and indicate if they are bringing a guest. The host plans a menu and each diner receives one dish to prepare. The cost of the meal is divided evenly among the participants. Every dinner offers a unique culinary experience with an extensive variety of dishes to savor.

The International Diners will not be meeting during the summer months and will resume in October. If someone would like to host a dinner sooner than that, please contact Barbara Braley by calling
457-8957 or send an email to bbraley@acsalaska.net

CREATIVE NEEDLERS
Creative Needlers will rest for the remaining summer months and not try to compete with busy summer schedules.

This in from Cam Carlson - ÒJust want to report to the Creative Needlers group that Huck Weaving (which we learned about in May) is alive and well. Bob and I are visiting our grand-daughter, daughter and son-in-law in Carlisle, Massachusetts. While strolling among the booths at the Old Home Day celebration, there it was: a whole booth displaying various forms of huck weaving! Tomorrow we are gong to the New England Quilt Museum where they always have great displays. Have a great summer!ÓÊ- Cam

WALK/SKI GROUP
The walk/ski group will not be meeting during the remaining summer months. Cynthia Dorman, who has coordinated this group, will return to Fairbanks in September.

Elizabeth Shapland will return to Fairbanks at the end of August and will welcome input about the best time and place to meet for a walk, to watch the colors changing in the fall.
