STRUT YOUR FAIRBANKS FASHIONS
Make sure YOU get in on the fun! Due to popular demand, The University WomenÕs Association and the WomenÕs Center will again be staging the Fabulous Fairbanks Fashion Show for the UAF New Faculty Orientation on Monday, August 18th from 12:15-1:00 pm at the Wood Center ballroom. Mark your calendar, and contact Kayt Sunwood (phone: 474-6311 or email: <mailto:kayt.sunwood@uaf.edu>kayt.sunwood@uaf.edu ) to assure your spot in the fashion stage line-up.

For those of you who missed the fun last year, in 2007, we revived the UWA comic fashion show featuring ÒFairbanks wearÓ for the entertainment and enlightenment of new University faculty. Again this year, UWA president, Kayt Sunwood will model her clothing and equipment for research trips/travel to remote villages by small aircraft. ÊWe are counting on Barbara Braley modeling early morning dog walking fashions as well as quick-change gear for teachers facing recess below zero.

What Fairbanks Fashions will you model for new faculty this year?

Contact Kayt with a description of what you will be modeling so we can fit you into the line-up. This is a not-to-be-missed event, so call Kayt right away so she can develop the list of models, descriptions of what they will be modeling, the line up for Òwalking the stageÓ and the text for the Fabulous Fairbanks Fashion Show extravaganza!

SALAD LUNCHEON
The Salad Luncheon group meets once a month at a memberÕs home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess provides beverage, bread andÊdessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. ItÕs a fun way to meet with friends and relax

The July Salad Lunch was held at the River's Edge in Chena's Alaskan Grill restaurant. Helen Howard reports ÒIt was enjoyed by all who came, although the restaurant was very busy due to a large group from Princess Tours arriving shortly after we gatheredÓ.

The August Salad Lunch will be held on Tuesday, August 12th at Helen Howard's home at 1000 Smallwood Trail. Please let her know by e-mailing <mailto:hmh@acsalaska.net>hmh@acsalaska.net if you are coming. If you telephone, please do not ask HelenÕs husband to take a message, but call back and leave a message on the answering machine at 488-2314.

Directions: Take Chena Hot Springs Road almost 7 miles to Smallwood Trail. (ItÕs the 3rd road on the left after you pass Nordale Road.) Helen's driveway is about 9/10Õs of a mile past the Smallwood Trail turnoff. HelenÕs driveway is the 3rd on the right after the junction with Kalinas Road which is marked by a house right in front of you. Helen will hang out a sign.

The September luncheon date is open, so we are looking for someone to host. If you would like to be our September hostess, either email Helen Howard at <mailto:hmh@acsalaska.net>hmh@acsalaska.net or leave a telephone message at 488-2314 andÊtogether you canÊset the date.

DO YOU HAVE A RENTAL AVAILABLE?
This comes from UWA member Elizabeth Shapland: Janet Satchwell is moving to Fairbanks and looking forward to joining UWA. She is also looking for a place to live for the fall semester! Her husband won't be coming up until the end of the year, so she would like to find a room with kitchen privileges or some comparably inexpensive housing. If you have any suggestions for her, please write to her at deanjanet.eagle@verizon.net. They left Idaho the 25th of July to drive up to Fairbanks, but should be checking their e-mail.

INTERNATIONAL DINERS
International Diners is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast. The participants are asked to choose a month they will host a meal and decide upon a cuisine theme. Those whose homes are unable accommodate a dinner party may partner with someone who can.

When the theme and date are announced, diners interested in attending contact the host and indicate if they are bringing a guest. The host plans a menu and each diner receives one dish to prepare. The cost of the meal is divided evenly among the participants. Every dinner offers a unique culinary experience with an extensive variety of dishes to savor.

The International Diners will not be meeting during the summer months and will resume in October. If someone would like to host a dinner sooner than that, please contact Barbara Braley by calling 457-8957 or send an email to <mailto:bbraley@acsalaska.net>bbraley@acsalaska.net

WALK/SKI GROUP
The walk/ski group will not be meeting during the remaining summer months. Cynthia Dorman, who has coordinated this group, will return to Fairbanks in September.

Elizabeth Shapland will return to Fairbanks at the end of August and will welcome input about the best time and place to meet for a walk, to watch the colors changing in the fall.
