The University Women’s Association will be included in a new brochure promoting UAF clubs.  We will be listed as a special interest club since we are not easily categorized among most of the other university clubs.  It may seem strange for us to be listed as a club since most, if not all, our members are not students.  Being a club provides us with benefits such as being able to rent Wood Center and hire security and shuttle services for our Holiday Bazaar.  One obligation we incur is that we have to submit biannual reports, but this is not a bad investment for our return.  Thanks to Helen Howard, VP Membership for arranging this.

SALAD LUNCHEON HOSTESSES NEEDED
The Salad Luncheon group meets once a month at a member’s home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess provides beverage, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It’s a fun way to meet with friends and relax.

Cynthia Dorman (457-4428) and Helen Howard (488-2314) are currently coordinating the group. Salad Luncheon hostesses are needed for the remainder of the winter season. Interested hostesses may email a positive reply to <mailto:c.dorman@gci.net>c.dorman@gci.net or to <mailto:hmh@acsalaska.net>hmh@acsalaska.net .

On a chilly winter day, Cynthia Dorman hosted the salad luncheon for February. Three cheers for those courageous UWA members who braved the weather and enjoyed Cynthia’s hospitality. Getting out and socializing helps to carry us through these cold spells.

Looking for FALL RECYCLE SALE co-chairpersons
The Spring Recycle Sale has been cancelled for lack of chairpersons.

The Fall Recycle Sale is tentatively scheduled for September.  It's important to our UAF students and it's a fun way for good quality items to be re-circulated in the community. Let’s focus on getting co-chairs in place for that event. There are several UWA members interested in helping with this event.   Perhaps two or three members together would be interested in jointly chairing this project. Anyone interested? Either call Rita Osborne at 479-4535 or email <mailto:osborne@gvea.net>osborne@gvea.net or contact Georgene Nielsen at 479-0988 or email  <mailto:nielsen@mosquitonet.com>nielsen@mosquitonet.com .

SKI/WALK GROUP
There is a possibility of skiing on Tuesdays and Thursday, weather permitting. Anyone interested should contact Cynthia Dorman at 457-4428 to see what is happening. Traditionally, the ski group members have met at the Ballaine Lake parking lot at 10:30 AM.

If the weather is cold, join Cynthia for walking on Tuesday mornings at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.  Anyone interested in walking on the indoor track at the Big Dipper , give Cynthia a call and she’ll meet you there. There is currently no user fee.

MEMBER ADDRESS CHANGE
Please note that UWA member Ruth Levey’s new email address is:  <mailto:rlevey@alaska.net>rlevey@alaska.net.

UWA KID’S GROUP
Please contact Alexis Runstadler about a mom’s and kid’s group for those interested in more children’s activities. Call 452-1044 or send an email to acrunstadler@yahoo.com .

INTERNATIONAL DINERS
For those who have not participated in International Diners before: A host chooses a month and decides upon a cuisine theme. The host contacts all International Diners who have indicated that they plan to attend.  Based on the response, the host plans a meal, and all participants will get a recipe to prepare.  Participants are asked to keep a monetary total of what they spend to prepare their dish. During the dinner, all totals are added together, and an average sum is assigned to each person.  Thus, a person who prepared an inexpensive dish will likely end up paying some money, and those who prepared an expensive dish will likely get some money back. It is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast. Interested in hosting?  Please contact Barbara Braley at <mailto:bbraley@acsalaska.net>bbraley@acsalaska.net or call 457-8957.

This month the International Diners will meet at the Hot Tamale restaurant on March 31st at 6:30 PM. Hot Tamale is located at 112 North Turner (that's between the Big I and Sampson's Hardware- across the street from the News-Miner building). If you plan to attend, by March 28th please give Barbara Braley a call at 457-8957 or email bbraley@acsalaska.net .

Also, mark your calendars for an Egyptian dinner at the home of Laura Walsh on April 21st.

BOOK GROUP
Because the March weather has been very challenging and because several book group members will be away from Fairbanks this month, the next Page-Turners Book Club meeting will be postponed until April. We will meet at the home of Dana Nordmeyer on Wednesday evening, April 25th at 6:30 pm.  Directions to the Nordmeyer home may be obtained by calling 490-6547.

As previously decided, the selected book is Teacher Man by Frank McCourt who won the Pulitzer Prize for Angela's Ashes.  This April selection tells of McCourt’s experiences teaching school in New York City. If you haven't read the book of the month, you are welcome to come, get acquainted with the group and help to pick a future reading selection. For more information, call Mariclare (Mary) Langan at 479-2332.

May's book will be The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards.  It has been the #1 bestseller for paperback fiction for several weeks.  Our selection deals with a doctor who puts   his Down’s syndrome baby girl in an institution.

2007 HOLIDAY BAZAAR
Please mark your calendars: the next UWA holiday bazaar is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th, 2007.
