SALAD LUNCHEON
The Salad Luncheon group meets once a month at a member’s home.
The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess provides
beverage, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend
to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It’s a fun way
to meet with friends and relax.
Cynthia Dorman (457-4428) and Helen Howard (488-2314) are currently coordinating the group. Salad Luncheon hostesses are needed for the remainder of the winter season. Interested hostesses may email a positive reply to <mailto:c.dorman@gci.net>c.dorman@gci.net or to <mailto:hmh@acsalaska.net>hmh@acsalaska.net .
Helen Howard writes “The Salad Luncheon at Myllie Thomas's home on January 25th was delightful. It was attended by Grace Moore, Mary Claire Langan, Kristina Ahlnas, Cora Cook, Rita McGrath and Bobbie Rice as well as Frieda Townsend, Cynthia and I. It was nice to see Frieda again after a long time. Myllie served us on individual woven trays with beautiful linens and the food was on a table fit for a king, and all delicious.”
Cynthia Dorman will be our salad luncheon hostess Thursday, February 22nd at noon in her home at 1020 Baneberry Lane in Fairbanks. Contact Cynthia at 457-4428 or <mailto:c.dorman@gci.net>c.dorman@gci.net to RSVP.
Looking for SPRING RECYCLE SALE chairperson
The Spring Recycle Sale needs a chairperson or a pair of co-chairs. It is usually
held in April. Can you help do it? Is there another member with whom you
would like to co-chair? Please call either Rita Osborne (479-4535) or Georgene
Nielsen (479-0988); or email a positive reply to <mailto:Osborne@gvea.net>Osborne@gvea.net
or nielsen@ mosquitonet.com
SKI/WALK GROUP
There is a possibility of skiing on Tuesdays and Thursday, weather permitting.
Anyone interested should contact Cynthia Dorman at 457-4428 to see what is
happening. Traditionally, the ski group members have met at the Ballaine
Lake parking lot at 10:30 AM.
If the weather is cold, join Cynthia for walking on Tuesday mornings at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. Anyone interested in walking on the indoor track at the Big Dipper , give Cynthia a call and she’ll meet you there. There is currently no user fee.
GAMES NIGHT
The next Games Night hosted by Laura Walsh will be Tuesday, February 20th from
7:00 to 10:00 PM. Spouses and friends are welcome to her home
at 2555 Allen Adale Road. This time Laura would like to try teaching/learning/playing
a wide variety of two person games; a sort of two-person round
robin. Laura has Quixo, Chess, Avalam, Sequence, Connections,
Blokus, Mastermind, Set, Quiddler, and (or bring your own and introduce
us to something new!). If a night of trying your hand at some
of these sounds like fun, RSVP to lwalsh@acsalaska or
call 374-8084 and get directions to Laura’s home.
UWA KID’S GROUP
A mom’s and kid’s group is being planned for those interested in
more children’s activities. Please contact Alexis Runstadler if
interested at 452-1044 or acrunstadler@yahoo.com .
INTERNATIONAL DINERS
For those who have not participated in International Diners before: A
host chooses a month and decides upon a cuisine theme. The host contacts
all International Diners who have indicated that they plan to attend. Based
on the response, the host plans a meal, and all participants will get a recipe
to prepare. Participants are asked to keep a monetary total of what
they spend to prepare their dish. During the dinner, all totals are added
together, and an average sum is assigned to each person. Thus, a person
who prepared an inexpensive dish will likely end up paying some money, and
those who prepared an expensive dish will likely get some money back. It
is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast.
Some of our members may not have heard but the January international dinner at the Barbara Day-Jim Dixon home was cancelled due to frozen pipes. Barbara says they are now scheduled to host a dinner on Saturday, May 19th.
Kick off your shoes and break out your sunglasses! This month International Diners will have Caribbean Theme and will be hosted by Jeff and Annette Freymueller on Saturday, February 17th. We are still in need of a co-host, if anyone wants to volunteer.
Please RSVP by Saturday, Feb 12 to Annette at alaskapt@hotmail.com or by calling 479-3550.
BOOK GROUP
Book Group will meet Monday, February 19th at 6:30 at Pia Kohler's house on
campus. February's fiction book is The Kite Runner, the account
of an Afghan father and son who immigrate to America during the Russian occupation. Please
call Pia at 452-l08l to let her know you are coming and to get directions.
The March book will be Teacher Man by Frank McCourt who won the Pulitzer Prize for Angela's Ashes. Teacher Man tells of his experiences teaching school in New York City. If you haven't read the book of the month, you can come anyway, get acquainted with the group and help pick the next book. For more information, call Mariclare (Mary) Langan at 479-2332.
2007 HOLIDAY BAZAAR
Please mark your calendars: the next UWA holiday bazaar is scheduled for Saturday
and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th, 2007.
UWA ACTIVITY GROUPS
One of UWA’s most popular groups, the Salad Luncheons, needs a coordinator.

to meet monthly, and coordination is not hard. Please contact Cynthia at 457-4428
for more information.
Another popular activity Group, the Scholarship Application Readers, also needs a coordinator. Please contact UWA president, Rita Osborne, (479-4535) if you can head this group.
