UWA ANNUAL MEETING IN  MAY
Volunteers are needed to select a date, location and possibly a program of entertainment.  Since we don't have a social vice president, some members are needed to develop a plan.  The annual meeting is usually held on a Sunday in May which is about 3+ weeks from now.  In recent years it has been held at the conference room atop the IARC building (2006), in a member’s home (2005 and 2004) or at a restaurant.

NOMINATIONS FOR OFFICERS
Nominations are needed for the elected UWA board positions.  They can be submitted to Rita Osborne at 479-4535 or email <mailto:osborne@gvea.net>osborne@gvea.net. UWA will do a bylaws review as well, since we have to incorporate a phrase required by the University of Alaska in our bylaws by 2008.

SALAD LUNCHEON HOSTESSES NEEDED
The Salad Luncheon group meets once a month at a member’s home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess provides beverage, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It’s a fun way to meet with friends and relax.

Please RSVP to Frieda Townshend at 479-2898, if you would like to attend the salad luncheon she is hosting on Thursday April 12 at noon at her home at 4649 Princeton Drive.
The directions to her house are:
Take Chena Pump Road to Amherst. Go Left there to the last road, which is Steelhead.
Turn right 2 blocks to Princeton. Frieda’s home is the second house on the left.

MEMBER ADDRESS CHANGE
Please note that UWA member Ruth Levey’s new email address is:  <mailto:rlevey@alaska.net>rlevey@alaska.net.

UWA KID’S GROUP
Please contact Alexis Runstadler about a mom’s and kid’s group for those interested in more children’s activities. Call 452-1044 or send an email to acrunstadler@yahoo.com .

INTERNATIONAL DINERS
For those who have not participated in International Diners before: A host chooses a month and decides upon a cuisine theme. The host contacts all International Diners who have indicated that they plan to attend.  Based on the response, the host plans a meal, and all participants will get a recipe to prepare.  Participants are asked to keep a monetary total of what they spend to prepare their dish. During the dinner, all totals are added together, and an average sum is assigned to each person.  Thus, a person who prepared an inexpensive dish will likely end up paying some money, and those who prepared an expensive dish will likely get some money back. It is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast. Interested in hosting?  Please contact Barbara Braley at <mailto:bbraley@acsalaska.net>bbraley@acsalaska.net or call 457-8957.

Mark your calendars for an Egyptian dinner at the home of Laura Walsh (374-8084) at 2555 Allen Adale Road on April 21st.

BOOK GROUP
The next Page-Turners Book Club meeting will be at the home of Dana Nordmeyer on Wednesday evening, April 25th at 6:30 pm.  Directions to the Nordmeyer home may be obtained by calling 490-6547.
As previously decided, the selected book is Teacher Man by Frank McCourt who won the Pulitzer Prize for Angela's Ashes.  This April selection tells of McCourt’s experiences teaching school in New York City. If you haven't read the book of the month, you are welcome to come, get acquainted with the group and help to pick a future reading selection.

May's book will be The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards.  It has been the #1 bestseller for paperback fiction for several weeks.  Our selection deals with a doctor who puts   his Down’s syndrome baby girl in an institution. For more information, call Mariclare (Mary) Langan at 479-2332.

DO YOU HAVE A MOTORCYCLE?
UWA member Colleen Jones Writes “ I have heard of a great many UAF WOMEN motorcycle riders.  If anyone would like to join in on Friday night rides, starting from the Regal Cinema's at 7:00 p.m., the Arctic Servant's Christian Motorcyclists Association has a safe, non-drinking group that welcomes newcomers.  This group welcomes all riders, regardless of bike style, and they will begin riding as soon as the roads are free and clear of ice.  Mid-April onward is our starting date to look for riding.”

Feel free to contact Colleen Jones at 474-6664 for further information.
