CABIN FEVER in MARCH
The UWA Cabin Fever event scheduled for Sunday, February 26th at the home of
Floss Caskey was cancelled for everyone's safety. Summit Drive had not been
plowed and was quite treacherous.
Floss says "Hopefully, we will reschedule Cabin Fever for another time
in March when the weather is a bit more cooperative. I will keep you posted.
Stay warm and cozy!"
UWA President Rita Osborne reports the event has been tentatively rescheduled for the weekend of March 25 & 26. We'll notify everyone as soon as a specific date and time is set.
SALAD LUNCHEON
Our UWA Secretary, Helen Howard hosted the February salad luncheon and Floss
Caskey reports everyone had a wonderful time. Helen lives out Chena Hot Springs
and the drive was so beautiful that Floss didn't mind the distance.
The Salad Lunch group meets once a month at a member's home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess usually provides beverages, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It's a fun way to meet with friends and relax. If you would like to have the luncheon at your home, please call Floss at 457-4424.
Floss does not have a hostess for March. It seems most of the ladies are very busy this month. If someone does step forward Floss will email the group.
INTERNATIONAL DINERS
For those who have not participated in International Diners before: A host
chooses a month and decides upon a cuisine theme. The host contacts all International
Diners who have indicated that they plan to attend. Based on the response,
the host plans a meal, and all participants will get a recipe to prepare.
Participants are asked to keep a monetary total of what they spend to prepare
their dish. During the dinner, all totals are added together, and an average
sum is assigned to each person. Thus, a person who prepared an inexpensive
dish will likely end up paying some money, and those who prepared an expensive
dish will likely get some money back. It is a fun way to collect some great
recipes and the dinners are a feast
Ruth Levey reports the Israeli dinner at Eva Rothman's home was a delight. "The
food was delicious, and the table set elegantly. Good company too."
Eleven International Diners met on February 18th at the house of Jeff and Eva
Rothman to enjoy an Israeli dinner. The dishes included popular Middle Eastern
stand-bys like falafel, pita bread, hummus and baba ghanoush, but also specialties
such as Israeli barbecued chicken, Orange chicken, Israeli chopped vegetable
salad, Moroccan carrot salad and for dessert, fresh strawberries and mangoes
with Tunisian Almond Pastries and Cheese-filled Jerusalem Kodafa with Honey
Syrup.
Everyone did a fabulous job cooking, there was a nice variety of dishes and
the company was fun. The full menu and recipes are available from EvaRothman@acsalaska.net
for anyone who is interested.
