Salad Luncheon
The Salad Lunch group meets once a month at a member's home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess usually provides beverages, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It's a fun way to meet with friends and relax.

We still need homes and hostesses for the months of August and September. We already have a hostess for October but need two members to sign up for August and September.
For more information call Floss Caskey at 457-4424.

Floss Caskey, who coordinates the Salad Luncheon program, hosted the June luncheon at her lovely home. Who can duplicate that delicious ice tea punch? Thank you, Floss, we had a great time!

Mariclaire Langdon will host the July Salad Luncheon at her home 576 Hilltop, Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 12:00. RSVP to her at 479-2332. Please, no extra guests this time, since space is limited.
Directions: Take Farmer's Loop 2.4 miles from College Rd. Turn left on Scenic Loop (Scenic Heights subdivision). Go a block and a half and you will be at top of the hill. On the uphill side, by about 6 mailboxes is a 5-foot wooden "Hilltop Ave" sign. Go uphill 1/2 block, and my log house will be directly in front of you at the dead end. Parking for 3 or 4 cars by house at end of driveway. Any more can park on Hilltop in turnaround

International Diners
Many thanks to Barbara Braley for hosting a rousing Day-Before-Independence Day picnic. Celebrating Independence Day with the Braleys is fast becoming a UWA tradition.

Book Group
The UWA book group meets the second Monday of each month from 5:30 to 7:00 in the conference room at Noel Wien Library. Food is permitted in the conference room, and our discussions are very informal. Please join us!
For more information contact Judie Triplehorn at gilibrary@gi.alaska.edu . Alternately, you can fax Judie at 474-6790 (Attn. Judie Triplehorn) or by mail at P. O. Box 80826, Fairbanks AK 99708-0826.

Newsletter Costs
Thank you to all the members who provided mailing addresses for those who have moved or who can no longer be reached via their onfile email address.

The newsletter editor sent out 57 e-mails and 22 paper copies of the June newsletter. We are continuing to send copies of the newsletter to some special past members, such as Enid Cutler and Irene Peyton, who has recently moved to 923 245th Place, Desmoines, WA 98198.

Treasurer Barbara Day reports the cost for the newsletter publication from June 2004 to May 2005 was
approximately $172. Of course, more than 75 percent of the cost was for copying. The previous year's cost was approximately $140.

Summer Arts Festival
Congratulations to Jo Scott, the Summer Arts Festival is celebrating it's 25th year! Please encourage everyone to attend the varied evening and weekend performances. There is something for everyone and, especially for those on a tight work schedule, Lunch Bites, July 18 to 29 from 12:10 to 1:15 p.m. in the UAF Great Hall.

At the Board Meeting
A UWA board meeting took place Thursday, June 16 at 1:30 p.m. with six members present. The following are some of the agenda items discussed:

**** Positions open. Come join the fun! UWA members have a wonderful opportunity to make a valuable contribution during this next year. Board positions are available for VP Membership, VP Social, VP Communications, the Christmas Bazaar Chair, and Scholarship Chair.
Deb Triplehorn has consented to continue being on the Scholarship committee but cannot chair. Ginny Kawasaki is doing Communications. In addition, a Christmas Bazaar chair is needed soon. If you can recommend someone for the board vacancies, please contact Rita Osborne at 479-4535.

****Recruitment for fall
Rita Osborne and Helen Howard are redesigning the Membership Application sheet, and doing a new UWA brochure

**** The Fall Welcome Tea is tentatively planned for either September 11 or September 18. A special effort will be made to recruit new faculty, staff and spouses as well as recruit those in the community who have an association with or an interest in the university .

**** Barbara Braley has arranged for the Contradance to be held Saturday, September 17
at Wood Center.

**** Regarding the upcoming Fall Recycle Sale on September 24th, it would be helpful for someone solely to do publicity for this and other UWA events. We hope a volunteer will come forward or that suggestions will come from the membership about where in our ranks we may find this talented person.

Rita appreciated the Spring Sale volunteers greatly, whether they could help out for all or part of the sale. Rita received compliments from some volunteers who helped with the recent Recycle Sale that it was the best
organized that they had seen. Rita says this can be attributed to Cam Carlson for her tremendous organization and leadership and also to Beth Olson who followed Cam as Recycle Sale Chair.

**** The Christmas Bazaar is scheduled for November 5-6, 2005. Wood Center has been booked. Which part of the Bazaar do you want to do? We need the help of UWA members for such things as publicity, vendor coordination, entertainment, banners, computer, food vendors, table lottery and handling vendor inquiries. Ginny Kawasaki has agreed to be in charge of coordinating volunteers and vendor inquiries. A committee meeting for the mailings to Vendors should be scheduled for early August. Call Rita Osborne soon at 479-4535 and be part of this holiday fund-raiser.

**** Donation
UWA has had a request from the UAF Leadership Program to sponsor several female students to attend the fall leadership conference. The Board voted to provide $100 to the Leadership Program.

**** UWA has $10,960.65 in savings and $503.50 in checking. There are a few bills to pay. After paying them, our Treasurer Barbara Day estimates a profit on the Holiday Bazaar of $9,600. This is less than last year. There is $7,000 available for scholarships, but there are only three or four applications.
