We had a wonderful time at Judy William's Salad Luncheon! The Salads were
so delicious and the company even better. Thanks to Judy!

We would like to thank Jeff and Annette Freymueller for hosting the
International Diners in January. Our meal was an excellent selection of
Indian food thanks to the recipes that were full of helpful tips for
success. Samik Sil, a student of Jeff's from India, treated us to his own
recipe of chicken masala. It was an evening of warm food and lively
conversation on a chilly night..

Why go to Athens? Enjoy delicious “Greek Cuisine” right here in Fairbanks.
INTERNATIONAL DINERS will be at Mike and Floss Caskey's home, Saturday,
February 19 at 7:00 pm. Our co-hosts for the evening festivities will
be Jim Dixon and Barbara Day. The cuisine will be Greek.
Please RSVP to Barbara Day at 479-4306 or Floss Caskey at 457-4424.

It sounds like the FERUARY SALAD LUNCH at Helen Howard’s will be a real
adventure. It will be held at Helen’s on Friday February 11, at 12:30 (note
change from the usual time). Call Helen at 488-2314 to RSVP. It sounds like
car-pooling from Chena Hot Springs will be a good idea. Here are her
directions to 1000 Smallwood Trail: Take Chena Hot Springs Road 6.7 miles
to Smallwood Trail. It is about 1/4 mile past Nordale Road, and just before
a string of mailboxes. You will turn left off of Chena Hot Springs Road.
Keep right, staying on Smallwood, when you see a house right in front of
you. Start counting driveways. Helen's driveway is the 3rd drive on the
right after this point. It is marked '1000' and she will put out a sign. It
is almost 1 mile from the main road. Smallwood Trail is steep and Helen
advises winter tires or 4-wheel drive. Bring sturdy boots with good tread to
get into the house from the parking area. If you think you'll have trouble
on the hill, call Helen for a ride and park on the main road. There is lots
of space there.

Can you believe that January is already over? Well, this brings us to our
annual "CABIN FEVER" celebration which will be on Saturday, Feb. 26 from
2:00 to 4:00 at Floss Caskey's. Gael Murakami will share her wonderful
watercolors, Elizabeth Shapland her colorful and fun quilting, Nancy Klammer
her herbal tussie mussies (come see to find out what this is!) and Judy
Williams her knowledge of winter birds and bird feeding. There will be time
for others to share their winter activities and interests. Refreshments,
door prize, great conversation. Please bring a friend. RSVP for directions
to Floss at 457-4424 or to Rita Osborne at 479-4535.

Once we are out of this deep freeze, we'll be SKIING AGAIN. Join us if you
can. We meet at the parking lot by Ballaine Lake at 1:30 Mondays and 10:45
Fridays
for a ski of about 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, at a "talking" pace.
No need to call ahead, just show up if you can (we wait about 5-8 minutes),
but feel free to call Elizabeth at 474-4725 if you have any questions. We
don't have an official cut-off temperature, but if it is colder than 15
below, you probably won't find anyone there to ski with you.
