SALAD LUNCHEON
Mariclaire Langdon hosted a delightful salad luncheon in July. We had a wonderful time! Thank you, Mariclaire!
Myllie Thomas will host the August Salad Luncheon on Monday, August 29 at 12:00. Her new address is 666 11th Avenue; Condo #101. Please RSVP to Myllie at 479-7377.
The Salad Lunch group meets once a month at a member's home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess usually provides beverages, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It's a fun way to meet with friends and relax.
We need a Salad Luncheon hostess for September. We are happy to have a hostess for October, Grace Moore. For more information call Floss Caskey at 457-4424.
TEA, ANYONE?
The Fall Welcome Tea will be held at the UAF president's home on Sunday, September
11th, from 2 to 4 p.m. . Our thanks to Patty Hamilton. We hope our members
have collected names and contact numbers for those who are new in town as
they met them over the summer. This is an opportunity to introduce UWA to
friends and newcomers. Invite them to the Tea!
Note from Rita Osborne: Would someone like to chair this event? You get to chose the theme and decide on refreshments which are supplied by the board members.
PUT ON YOUR DANCING SHOES!
The Contradance is set for 8 pm on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Wood Center.
RECYCLE SALE
The Fall Recycle Sale is set for Saturday, Sept. 24 from noon-2:30 p.m. at
Wood Center. We need enough volunteers for a variety of shifts covering 7:30
a.m. to 6 p.m. Any amount of time you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
We hope to have a tremendous amount of publicity and expect much interest from
sellers and buyers. Rita Osborne and Georgene Nielsen are the co-chairs. Someone
to spearhead the publicity is needed. This is a fun event. If you would like
to help, please contact Rita (479-4535, osborne@gvea.net) or Georgene (479-0988,
nielsen@mosquitonet.com) .
UWA HOLIDAY BAZAAR
Holiday Bazaar committee meetings will be held during August since much work
needs to be done to hold the Bazaar, scheduled for November 5 & 6. Please
reserve those dates since we need everyone's participation. Our dedicated
volunteers need someone to coordinate this event.
A note from Irene
A note was received from UWA member Irene Peyton who has relocated with husband
Len to Washington. She is settled now and writes "I had a delightful
surprise this week. A lovely flower arrangement came from 'Fairbanks Friends'..and
I do not know whom to thank. So I am sending fond thank you's to all of you!".
Irene plans to visit Fairbanks in time for berrying next summer!
BOOK GROUP
The UWA book group will meet Monday, September 12 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the
conference room at Noel Wien Library to discuss Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter
Naslund. Food is permitted in the conference room, and our discussions are
very informal. Please join us!
