UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2003
P.O. BOX 81776, Fairbanks, Alaska 99788 www.uaf.edu/"uwa

Get ready for some winter fun at our ?th- CABIN FEVER CELEBRATION.
On March 8th, from 2-4 p.m. we will gather at the home of Jane (and Peter)
Bechtel to share ideas for blasting the 4-walls blues. We want ideas for
activities that are such fun-- that are so fascinating, so engaging -- that
we will cease our tooth-grinding as we wait for breakup. We don't want to
dwell on the mud and sog of spring as we wait for that first day when we can
venture out in shorts and tee shirts. Do we? I didn't think so.
Any of you who have a hobby, craft, or similar interest that you would be
willing to share with the group, please contact Carol Woodall at 457-5435
or carol.woodall@att.net. We would like 5 or 6 ideas/demonstrations. And
those of you who don't wish to share a hobby, but would like to hear about
those of others, don't forget to enter March 8th on your calendar. See you
then!

UWA is 50 Years Old This Year!
In preparation for our spring celebration of our anniversary, I want to
collect some details of the fun and interesting (or wild or sad or
frustrating!) things UWA women have done in those five decades. Please take
a few minutes to record for each decade a few of the things you were doing
at the time (work, play, family activities, whatever). I plan to organize
these by decade so please give at least rough dates for events/activities.
Please
send to me by mail or e-mail: Elizabeth Shapland, 725 Cardinal Ct.Fbks,

Thanks for helping out!

INTERNATIONAL DINERS Coyote Cuisine filled two houses with the delicious
aroma of southwestern foods on Saturday the 25th of January. Carol and Dave
Woodall hosted a large group at their home. Ruth and Hal Levey enjoyed the
company of those who came from their end of town. Carol writes: “ From the
ceviche to the mousse, all was top notch, and we had a great evening --
thanks to your stalwart efforts and superior talents.”

The NEXT INTERNATIONAL DINNERS feast will be held on March 1st at the home
of Barbara and Alan Braley. It will feature New Orleans and Cajun cookery.
Please r.s.v.p. to Barbara Braley or Barbara Day by February 15th. (Braley
at 457-8957 or bbraley@gci.net) or (Day at 479-4306 or bdday@hotmail.com.)

The SALAD LUNCH held at Cynthia Dorman’s was an elegant affair with a
delicious array of salads and tasty breads topped off with a chocolate bread
pudding. It’s a recipe I’d like to get hold of. What fun it is to gather
with dear friends on a sunny January afternoon.

The FEBRUARY SALAD LUNCH will be held on Friday, Feb. 28 at noon at
Nancy Klammer's home at 1391 Pickering Dr. Please call 457-4647 and leave a
message or e-mail tklammer@gci.net by Feb. 23 if you plan to attend. Nancy
will call or e-mail directions on the 24th when she returns from Mexico.

Join us for CROSS COUNTRY SKI any Friday at 10 AM and/or Tuesday at 1 PM.
If you want to ski, just show up at the Ballaine Lake parking lot along
Farmer's Loop at those times, and with luck you will find at least one other
person there ready to join you for a delightful ski. Feel free to invite
any non-UWA friends to join us. We will wait at the lot until about ten
minutes after the hour and then head out onto the trails. As many of you
know, in the past our skiing has been in the track (classical) and at a pace
suited to
conversation--we are not racers! Don't hesitate to come if you are fairly
new to skiing. Generally we are out for about 1 1/4 hours, depending upon
the weather, but there are convenient places for turning back if you don't
want to be out that long.
Looking forward to seeing you at the lake.
