RED RIBBON AWARDS GO TO THE BAZAAR COMMITTEE
For several years, we have had a paid coordinator, but this year, we had
willing volunteers, and the following people have been in internet
communication since September. Uma Bhatt and Irene Peyton co-coordinated
this year's very successful 34th annual bazaar with the ongoing
consultation with Janet Taylor, who organized the bazaar for several years,
and Nan McGregor Scott, last year's chairperson.
Uma set up a web page to which vendors had access and also prepared a
timeline for the committee. There was a total of nearly 200 different
vendors. Organizing vendors and assigning tables is the major chore. Jane
Bechtel and Carol Woodall chaired the vendor position, with Jane handling
vendor requests and and dealing with phone calls and mail from late August
until November 3. Carol putting it all on spread sheets. Colleen Jones,
treasurer, handled finances.
Floss Caskey chaired Publicity, with an assist from Irene Peyton and Leslie
O’Connor. Floss also prepared the UWA poster depicting UWA activities.
Elizabeth Shapland returned from England in time to lend her expertise and
past experience to assist with assigning tables and other vendor tasks, in
addition to preparing name tags. Wendy Rousalis and Irene Peyton scheduled
volunteers. Barbara Day, with volunteers from Lathrop’s Decathelon Team,
managed the coat room. Barbara Braley had the banner revamped and was there
at the crack of dawn to have it placed downtown, and worked with Physical
Plant to have outside signs in place. Uma made the arrangements for Security
and the shuttle. Nan McGregor Scott joined the team who assigned tables. A
November 3 article in the Newsminer, with a picture on page one gave us a
Sunday Boost. We experimented with advertising Sunday door prizes too.
Nancy Klammer organized this pilot program.
Janet Taylor is to be congratulated for her success in having very
energetic porters , members of the West Valley Orchestra, to assist vendors
and for arrangements with these musical groups: North Star Strings, Prep
group, Anchorage Women's Baroque Ensemble, Great Land Men's Barbershop
Chorus, Sweet Adelines, Flute Choir and the
Harp Group
Thanks to the following UWA members who made the whole thing work by
assisting with many tasks on Saturday and Sunday: Beth Olson, Jing Zhang,
Lura White, Cam Carlson, Mary Keskinen, Ginny Kawakaki, Rita Osborne, Kathy
McGowan, Lorraine Phillips, Judy Williams, Anna Zilberkant, Heidi Supkis,
Star Patterson, Deseree Wright, Margaret Colony, Louise Anderl, Helen

My thanks to Irene for writing this up.
All went so well despite the three minutes of rocking and rolling in the
earthquake. Jane adds "(after) putting away the table maps, stamps,
envelopes, telephone pad, vendor samples, red cards, green cards, etc. it's
now time to read a book."
SALAD LUNCH will take place at Irene Peyton's home on November 15. Please
