SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
We have 27 applications for the UWA scholarships for the next spring
semester. 16 applications have to be rejected because they are incomplete
(either the transcripts are missing, reference letters are missing, or both)
or the applicants won the award last year. Being a last years awardee means
that you are not eligible this year. We are reviewing the applications
December 5-12 and will meet December 14 to decide on who gets the
scholarships. If you have questions about the scholarship committee, please
contact Nicole Molders.

SALAD LUNCH
Elizabeth Shapland will host the December luncheon on Tuesday the 17th. For
directions call Elizabeth at 474-4725. Please RSVP by Sunday the 15th. This
will be a great time to introduce a special friend to UWA!!
Thanks to Irene Peyton for hosting the November luncheon!

INTERNATIONAL DINERS
International Diners is a group that meets monthly for a dinner. The
hostess and co-hostess decide on a theme, call those who have indicated
interest, and prepare menus to be mailed or emailed. Each person/couple
keeps a record of expenses and the costs are pro-rated among those
attending. Each person or couple should try to host or co-host during the
year. Hosts provide the beverages, table service and name tags. The next
meal for International Diners will be hosted by Wendy Rousalis on December
21st. The cuisine and menu will soon be determined and delegated to those
interested in attending.

NEW YEAR'S EVE
We are once again planning to have the UWA New Year's Eve potluck/viewing of
fireworks at the UAF IARC building on West Ridge. Colleen Jones will be at
the building from 5:30 p.m. on. Anyone able and willing to set up, please
call Colleen at 490-2607 between 6 and 9 p.m. weekdays. We need a door
opener at 6:00 to 6:15 and food will be served after 6:45. I believe the
fireworks start at 8:00. Potluck is requested/required; coffee and tea will
be served. If there are any questions, please e-mail Colleen at
momabear@gci.net <mailto:momabear@gci.net> or call at the above number.

UWA VOLUNTEERS FOR KUAC
We would like to thank the following members of UWA for helping take phone
pledges for KUAC on December 3rd: Jane
Bechtel, Barbara Braley, Gael Murakami, Heidi Supkis and Carol Woodall.

CHRISTMAS PRESENTS NEEDED
Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living needs gifts for women. People
are being very generous with providing
gifts for the children who live at the women's shelter but there are few
gifts for the women. If you have presents that have lasted through the year
without being used, it would be wonderful if you could donate them to the
shelter. To find the shelter, go down Barnette to Ninth Ave. It's the second
building on the left, behind Fairbanks Counseling and
Adoption. You may receive a tax deductible receipt for your donation if it
is made during business hours.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
The book for December is Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert O'Brien
on Dec. 9 at the Golden Shanghai on Airport at 5:30-7 PM. Contact Judie
Triplehorn for reservations at 455-6723 or 474-7512.

OTHER NOTES
The 2003 Bazaar is Nov 1 & 2 and the wood center is booked.
