SUBJECT                College of Liberal Arts Dean Finalists Chosen

Site visits have been scheduled for Margaret Braungart, Rosemary Keefe and Carole Seyfrit, three finalists being considered to fill the position of dean of the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Liberal Arts.

A nationwide search for candidates began last year following the resignation of former CLA Dean Gorden Hedahl, who left UAF to become Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. UAF communication department head John Leipzig has been interim CLA dean since Hedahl's departure last July.

Braungart holds a joint appointment as professor of psychology in the State University of New York College of Medicine and in the Health Science Center College of Health Professions at Syracuse. She has also served as chairperson of the Health Science and Human Studies Department, Liberal Arts and Sciences Division at SUNY-Syracuse.

Keefe is professor of English at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield where she served as Department Head. She was an American Council on Education Fellow last year.

Seyfrit is associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies at Virginia's Old Dominion University in Norfolk. She has served as program director for the Arctic Social Sciences Program of the National Science Foundation.

Keefe will be visiting campus April 8 – 9; Seyfrit will be visiting on April 15- 16 and Braungart will be on campus April 19 -20. Candidate resumes are available for review on the web at: http://www.uaf.edu/cla/cla.html
