SUBJECT                UA Scholars Program Explained

LOCATION              UAF Natural Sciences Facility, Pearl Berry Boyd Lecture Hall

DATE & TIME          Feb. 24, 6 - 8 p.m

Local high school students, their parents and admissions counselors will get an opportunity to learn about the new University of Alaska Scholars Program at an evening presentation hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Admissions Office Feb. 24 from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Pearl Boyd Berry Lecture Hall at the UAF Natural Sciences Facility. Free parking and refreshments will be available.

UA President Mark Hamilton introduced the Scholars Program last year. Under the plan, graduating Alaskan high school students in the top 10 percent of their class are offered a four year scholarship to any campus within the University of Alaska system. The program is designed to help reduce the close to 60 percent of high school graduates who attend college out of state.

An overview of the UA Scholars Program and how students can apply for it will be given at the presentation. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about other UAF scholarships they may qualify for.

The presentation will also include an overview of UAF's world-renowned research activities and a four-person student panel will talk about what it is like to be a student at UAF. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
