SUBJECT                U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens Announces Federal Funding for University of Alaska Museum

LOCATION              University of Alaska Museum, 907 Yukon Drive, University of Alaska Fairbanks

DATE & TIME          Tuesday, Nov. 10, 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. at the UA Museum of the North, Sen. Ted Stevens will unveil plans by the federal government to help fund the University of Alaska Museum expansion. The museum hopes to raise $20 million to build a new addition, which is expected to open in the year 2002, the 100th anniversary of the founding of Fairbanks. Stevens serves as an honorary co-chair for the UA Museum of the North's Expansion Campaign.

The UA Museum of the North, Alaska's only research museum, is the state's repository for all artifacts collected on federal lands. The current building is not large enough to exhibit the museum's vast collections, including an extensive fine art collection featuring Alaska's most prominent artists.
