SUBJECT Danish Ambassador to the United States to visit campus

K. Erik Tygesen, Danish Ambassador to the United States, will hold an Open Forum with UAF students of business and members of the Fairbanks financial community Monday, September 14. Ambassador Tygesen will discuss the EuroDollar, the International Monetary System, and the current economic challenges. The Open Forum will be held in the Rasmuson Library Media Classroom, Room 340, starting at 2:15 p.m. His wife Ulla Tygesen and Mr. Frank Danner, consul for the Royal Danish Consulate-Alaska, will accompany Ambassador Tygesen. The public and the UAF community are invited to attend.
Ambassador and Mrs. Tygesen will be given a tour of the UA Museum of the North, followed by a meeting with UAF's graduate and undergraduate students from Scandinavia.
On Tuesday, September 15, Ambassador Tygesen will address the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce on "Challenges in EU and US Relations."
Ambassador Tygesen received his MA in Economics from the University of Copenhagen in 1964. He has served the Danish government in several appointments, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1972-74), Economic Counselor for the Danish Embassy in Bonn (1974-77), Counselor at the European Community at Brussels (1977-78), Ministry of Foreign Affairs/International Division (1978-81), Ambassador to Brazil (1981-82), Under Secretary for Commercial Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1982-83), State Secretary and the Minister's deputy for European and Foreign Economic Affairs (1983-89), Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and Head of the Danish Military Mission to the Allied Control Authorities at Berlin (1989-95), and Ambassador to the United States (1995-present).
