SUBJECT                YOUNG MUSICIANS AT UAF JAZZ

LOCATION              Davis Concert Hall, Wood Center and Music Department, UAF Campus

DATE & TIME          April 2-4, 1998; 7.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.

The UAF music department is hosting junior and senior high school jazz musicians from all over the state at Jazz 98 April 2-4. The students will participate in individual and group clinics. Topics include improvisation, vocal jazz and instrument-specific individual lessons. Among the participating students, an All-Star Band will be selected and will perform at the Davis Concert Hall Friday at 8 p.m. Admission is $5. After the All-Star High School Band concert, awards and scholarships will be announced.

A concert of high school bands and the directors' band will perform Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m. Admission is $5. On Saturday night, guest artists Sunny Wilkinson and Rob McConnell will perform at the Davis Concert Hall. Admission is $10.

Guest artists and students will be practicing throughout the day during Jazz 98 and the public is invited to listen to sessions being held in open areas. In addition, the 14-piece Air Force Band of the Pacific "The Greatlanders" will play rock 'n roll, big band music, Broadway show tunes, contemporary jazz and country in the Wood Center for free at noon Friday, April 3.
