Margaret Russell, general manager of Seekins' Ford Lincoln Mercury, has been named Business Leader of the Year by the Associated Students of Business at UAF. She will be honored at the ABS 22nd annual awards dinner April 9 for her professional achievements as well as her community involvement.
The students cited Russell's contributions to the success of two Alaska car dealerships as reasons for the recognition. Russell worked her way up the ladder from accounts payable clerk to general manager and secretary-treasurer of Seekins Ford Lincoln Mercury Inc. in Fairbanks and Seekins Ford-Peninsula in Soldotna. The gross revenues of both businesses is more than $70 million annually, and Seekins employs about 150 people.
Russell's community contributions and numerous offices, present and past, include 1996 president of Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, 1993 fundraising co-chair for the United Way Tanana Valley and chairperson of the Volunteer Action Center.
The Associated Students of Business is the student association under the School of Management. UAF's undergraduate and graduate business degree program are nationally accredited and place UAF 77 out of 1,200 across the nation with similar accreditation.
