STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNIZED

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 4, 1996

Fairbanks, Alaska - The University of Alaska Fairbanks has named 69 students to its Chancellor's and Dean's Lists to recognize outstanding academic achievements during the 1996 summer sessions program. The program lasts 16 weeks, however, the majority of courses are three to six weeks long. The last session of the 1996 program ended Aug. 16.

According to Summer Sessions Coordinator Jaclyn Hendrix, the various sessions enhance many academic programs at UAF. Both continuing students and visitors to the campus find an interesting and diverse selection of courses from which to choose.

UAF began offering academic programs during the summer in the early 1950s, primarily for Alaska's school teachers. Summer sessions now include developmental courses, general degree requirements at the undergraduate level, special field schools and language study, and graduate level courses in selected disciplines.

To be eligible for the Chancellor's List, an undergraduate student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average (G.P.A.) while enrolled in a minimum of twelve graded credits. Inclusion on the Dean's List indicates completion of twelve or more graded credits with an overall average of 3.5-3.9 G.P.A.
