SUBJECT: Sensational Perceptions Psychology Fair
LOCATION: West Valley High School multipurpose room
DATE & TIME: Thursday, May 2, 2002, from 7:45 - 10:30 a.m.
University of Alaska Fairbanks psychology students will join students from West Valley High School to host a fair entitled Sensational Perceptions, Thursday, May 2, 2002 from 7:45 - 10:30 a.m. The fair, developed jointly by students at UAF and West Valley, will consist of 13 booths on topics that aim to provide in-depth information to high school students about how our senses and resulting perceptions shape our world.
UAF Psychology Professor Dani Raap, and Joy Grubis, a teacher from WVHS, developed a set of requirements for their respective classes in which students would work together over the spring semester to develop the fair for high school students. Each member of Raap's senior-level Sensation and Perception class teamed up with a student from Grubis' psychology class. The booths were designed as interactive, while targeting the information to the high school audience.
The ultimate goal of the project is for UAF students to provide a unique approach to psychology and the extent in which our senses and perceptions influence our daily lives.
The fair also serves as a community service component for UAF students while encouraging interaction between the university and the high school while exploring psychology as an academic discipline.
