PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENT
START DATE: Oct. 31, 2001
STOP DATE: Nov. 20, 2001
SUBJECT: UAF Moose Alert
LOCATION: University of Alaska Fairbanks
DATE & TIME: Now through Nov. 20, 2001
DETAILS:
Each fall, moose living nearby tend to migrate onto the
UAF campus. This migration prompts a warning about the dangers of encounters
with wild animals.
Campus residents or visitors should not attempt to feed moose or try
to interact with the animals. Moose can be easily frightened or can charge
without notice.
A cow moose can be especially dangerous when trying to protect her offspring.
If you see a moose on campus, please call the UAF Police Department.
Campus police, along with officials from the Department of Fish and Game,
have been encouraging moose to move on to browsing areas off-campus by
using emergency response vehicles equipped with sirens and lights.
Motorists should also use caution while traveling in the area.
