The University of Alaska Fairbanks will honor America's servicemen and women during a special Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 10, from 10:3011:30 a.m. in the Wood Center multi-level lounge.
From World War II when enrollment dropped from 310 to 63 students in just three years, to now, when a group of 50 young men and women serve in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) on campus, UAF has a history of supporting the United States military. The ROTC program was established on campus in 1939.
Friday's program will include a posting of the colors and special presentation by several UAF Army ROTC members, each of whom enlisted and served in the military prior to joining the ROTC and becoming UAF students. Chancellor Marshall Lind will provide commentary, and a number of historical photos and military momentos will be available for viewing.
Also in conjunction with Veterans Day on campus, Vietnam veteran and UAF graduate student Mark Lomax will give a "Living History" lecture on Vietnam Tuesday, Nov. 7th in Gruening 306, from 69 p.m. The public is welcome.
