LOCATION              UAF Outdoor Adventures Program, Wood Center

DETAILS

As the first waves of summer break over Alaska’s Interior, more Fairbanksans will be streaming to nearby lakes, rivers and mountains for work and for fun. Being prepared for medical emergencies that arise in Alaska’s backcountry can easily become a matter of life or death.

UAF’s Outdoor Adventures Program and Summer Sessions are teaming up to offer a Wilderness First Responder course May 20-28 to help prepare adventurers when advanced treatment is days away. Course topics include how to care for patients in extreme environments, improvising for trauma care with limited supplies and managing spinal injuries, among other areas.

Deb Ajango, a nationally certified WFR instructor affiliated with Wilderness Medical Associates, will lead the course. Students will receive college credit upon completion. For more information, contact Tim Stallard at (907) 474-6027.
