With the key figures in the creation of the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines looking on, Territorial Gov. John Troy signs the act changing the college's name in 1935 to the University of Alaska. Standing from left to right: James Wickersham, Charles Bunnell, Territorial Senate President Luther Hess, Territorial Reps. Andrew Nerland and A.A. Shonbeck (both members of the Board of Regents), and Territorial Speaker of the House J.S. Hofman. Seated: Regent Grace Wickersham, Gov. Troy, Regent Harriet Hess, and Rep. George Lingo, who was both an alumnus and a regent.
