All official UAF websites must comply with these requirements.

Additional requirements

  • When a UAF logo is used, it must be the current, official logo.
  • Old, unapproved or modified banners or logos are not to be used.
Roxen users whose websites still use version 2 templates with an outdated UAF banner should contact OIT to migrate to the new version 3 template.

Development platform

Developing a UAF website in Roxen is recommended. Hosting, support, basic website creation and editor administration for Roxen webstes is managed by OIT, free of charge to UAF departments. Additionally, all Roxen websites are automatically included in UA's Google Search Appliance.

Use of official web banners

The standard UAF web banner, or a UAF signature system banner, as seen at the top of this page, is required on the home page of all official UAF department or program websites. If there is a question about whether or not your site qualifies to use the standard or signature system banner, or if you need assistance applying a banner to your site, contact a University Relations web developer at uaf.web@alaska.edu or 907-474-6281.

Use of the UAF banner is reserved for official UAF department and program websites and may not be used on nonaffiliated sites.

How to add the UAF banner

When you request a site on the UAF Roxen server from OIT, the banner should be included in the design by default. If it is not, contact OIT to request that it be included.

If you are developing off the UAF server, adding the UAF banner to your site is relatively easy, but there are some key steps that must be followed.

  1. Insert the banner CSS code into your document.
Insert this bit of CSS code into your document before the closing HEAD tag </HEAD>. Without it, the banner will not be flush to the top and sides of browser windows and the enclosed text will not have the correct style.
  2. Insert the banner code into your document.
The banner is made up of several elements and therefore cannot be copied as an image directly from a web page. Instead the code must be copied and pasted into your document to work correctly.

You are now finished inserting the banner.

Note: If you there are technical reasons why the above instructions will not work with your website's configuration, please contact University Relations to discuss alternate solutions.

How to add the UAF signature system banner

How to add the UAF signature system banner

UAF signature system banners can be added to your Roxen website. The signature system banner contains the department's name to the right of the UAF logo above the words "University of Alaska Fairbanks," in a UAF brand web font and color. The UAF logo on the left is linked to the UAF home page and the department or program's name is linked to it's home page.

To use a signature system banner, follow these instructions or contact OIT Support Center for assistance:

  1. Log into your Roxen site
  2. Choose "Advanced settings"
  3. Under "Banner," choose "uaf-custom-banner" from the "Type of banner" pulldown menu
  4. Publish your changes

Note: If you are developing your website outside of UAF's Roxen Web Content Management System and would like to use a UAF signature system banner, please contact University Relations for a solution that fits your development platform.
