SUBJECT NEW UA PRESIDENT TO ATTEND FALL CONVOCATION

Focus is on UAF's New Face for the New Millennium

DATE&TIME Sept. 10, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

LOCATION Newly Refurbished Schaible Auditorium

Bunnell Building, UAF Campus

University of Alaska Fairbanks Provost Paul Reichardt and UAF Chancellor Joan Wadlow will welcome faculty, staff and students back to the beginning of a new academic year at a fall convocation Thursday, Sept. 10, from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Reichardt, who is new to his post as UAF's chief academic officer, will highlight new initiatives, including an update on the campus' multi-year, multi-million dollar capital improvements and deferred maintenance plans.

Wadlow will also take part in the presentation, "A New Face for the New Millennium," by showcasing new tenure-track faculty. Nearly half of all the faculty who left UAF last year under the retirement incentive program have been replaced. According to Wadlow, UAF has been successful in recruiting tenure-track faculty to the institution by focusing on appointments that are collaborative and cross-functional. Maintaining academic quality and essential programs is one of the chancellor's top priorities.

The convocation will also serve as a forum to introduce Mark Hamilton, the newly appointed president of the University of Alaska system. Hamilton will give a short presentation. An informal reception will take place after the convocation ends.
