SUBJECT SummerFest 98:
UAF's Open House and Picnic
DATE&TIME Thursday, June 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UAF Campus
High school graduates and their families are invited to SummerFest on Thursday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the second year UAF has held an open house and summer picnic for the community. Last year's event brought more than 2,000 people to campus to see what UAF has to offer.
Academic advising and class registration will be available, including drawings for more than $1,000 worth of tuition scholarships. Students who are considering taking college classes will be able to get a close-up view of classrooms, science laboratories and special programs like TVC's maintenance technology program featuring an 8,000 pound engine used to teach diesel mechanics.
Special activities include ROTC rappelling demonstrations, airbag detonations, UAF bicycle cops demonstrating their criminal-catching skills, a UAF Bookstore sidewalk sale, book signings by Alaska authors, free swim passes at the Patty Center pool, and much more. SummerFest guests should use the Geist/Fairbanks Street campus entrance; parking is free.
Live music, balloons and free hot dogs will contribute to the festival atmosphere. SummerFest ends with an ice cream social on the lawn of UAF Chancellor Joan Wadlow's home at 3 p.m. featuring prize giveaways including a mountain bike donated by Beaver Sports.
