Science Potpourri, the annual open house hosted by UAF's College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics, is Saturday, April 11, from noon until 5 p.m. Interactive experiments for children, exhibits, demonstrations and science shows suitable for all ages will be held during the open house at the Natural Sciences Facility.
Visitors can play with bubbles, pan for gold, pet a lizard and learn about UAF's Partners in Science program.
In addition to laboratory tours and hands-on activities, a demonstration will take place at 2 p.m. in the Boyd Lecture Hall featuring equipment purchased from MAPCO Corp.'s Matching Funds for Technology Enhanced Education. Since 1994, MAPCO has provided nearly one-half million dollars to help UAF programs use technology in creative ways to enhance instruction. MAPCO Alaska Petroleum Vice President Jeff Cook will present this year's check of $90,000 to UAF Chancellor Joan Wadlow following the technology enhanced education demonstration.
