FROM: UAF University Relations

SUBJECT: UAF CHANCELLOR MEETS WITH WASILLA CHAMBER;

KICKS OFF EVENING SERIES FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS

DATE: Tuesday, July 1, 1997

University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Joan Wadlow will address the membership of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday, July 1. Wadlow accepted the invitation to speak at the chamber's general membership noon luncheon at the Mat-Su Resort to brief the group on the future of UAF programs in the area.

UAF this year is celebrating 80 years of serving the state. Founded in 1917 as the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, UAF today serves 113 communities throughout Alaska.

While in Wasilla, Wadlow will kick off UAF's "Evening of Excellence" series for high school students and their families. Programs are scheduled throughout the summer in Anchorage and Fairbanks and are open to anyone interested in learning more about what UAF has to offer.

"I'll be asking them to consider their choices. Certainly college is a good investment in their future, so why not college in Alaska? Why not UAF?" Wadlow said. "We offer a great education at an affordable price. Just up the road!"

The "Evening of Excellence" will take place at the Dorothy G. Page Museum, 323 Main Street, July 1, 5 - 7 p.m. Wadlow will be joined by UAF's academic advising center director Wanda Martin and UAF acting admissions director Charlie Dexter.
