The American Association of Affirmative Action will hold its Region 10 conference for the first time in Alaska Sept. 18-19 at the Anchorage Sheraton Hotel. Professionals in the fields of human resources, equal employment opportunity and affirmative action from throughout Pacific Northwest and Alaska will meet in workshops such as "Promoting Ethnic Diversity in the Workforce through Technology" and "Straight Talk about Sexual Harassment." Other issues to be covered include employment law, proactive recruitment, diversity and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The keynote speaker Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. is former congressman Walter E. Fauntroy, chairman of the Martin Luther King Center for Social Change in Washington, D.C. Featured speaker at the Thursday, Sept. 19 luncheon is Lee Bussard, diversity expert at The Pacific Institute in Seattle.
The regional conference is sponsored in part by the Anchorage and Interior Alaska Societies for Human Resources Management, the Governor's Committee for People with Disabilities, the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Anchorage, and the University of Alaska Statewide President's Special Projects Fund.
