EVENT: Award-winning Video Airs on Alaska One
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 29, 9 p.m.
"Northern Enclosure," a one-hour documentary about building in the North, received a 1996 bronze Telly award in the informational television category. Tellys are awarded to outstanding non-network and cable programs nationwide.
"Northern Enclosure" was produced by UAF's Alaska Cooperative Extension (ACE), using the home built in Fairbanks for the University of Alaska president to illustrate the Alaska Craftsman Home Program (ACHP) building principles: optimum insulation levels, airtight construction, controlled mechanical ventilation, efficient heating systems, efficient lighting and appliances, and passive solar design.
Kathy Kollodge, a media specialist at the Alaska Cooperative Extension, wrote and produced the program in 1995 with a grant from ACHP. Jeff Fay, extension videographer, documented the home construction over an 18 month period. Extension energy specialist, Rich Seifert, was the content specialist. Terry Duszynski, an ACHP trainer and the on-camera spokesman, was the executive producer.
Northern Enclosure has been broadcast statewide several times
and is used in ACHP workshops. Videotapes are available for loan
from local extension offices statewide. Alaska One will broadcast
the show at 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 29 on member stations in Juneau,
Bethel and Fairbanks.
