EVENT: College of Fellows Campus-wide Flower Planting

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 29, 8:30 a.m.

Close to 100 volunteers will plant thousands of flowers on the UAF main campus starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29. For the second year in a row the UAF College of Fellows, a volunteer support group of the university, is organizing this campus-wide event.

Free parking for the volunteer gardeners will be available in the lot across the street from Patty Center. A shuttle bus will bring volunteers to various campus planting sites.

Volunteers will spread out throughout the lower and upper areas of campus to fill large and small flower beds. Pads to kneel on while planting will be available at the coordinating table, located at the main entrance of the Great Hall. Volunteers are asked to check in at the coordinating table and bring extra buckets, trowels and planting tools. Last year volunteers went to work around 8:30 a.m. and were done by 11 a.m. Refreshments will also be available at the Great Hall location.

Each year visitors from around the world visit the UAF campus, long noted for its colorful and dramatic display of flowers. Community gardening groups and individuals from the Fairbanks area have volunteered to help beautify the campus by planting flowers and helping to maintain flower beds throughout the summer.
