Norman and Angie Kruckenberg, owners of Fairbanks Ace Hardware/OK Lumber, have been named 1996 Business Leaders of the Year by the Associated Students of Business (ASB) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Kruckenbergs will be honored at the 20th Annual Business Leader of the Year Awards Banquet, Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fairbanks Westmark Hotel Gold Room.
ASB chose the Kruckenbergs for their active participation in community events and organizations, such as the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau, Love, Inc., HIPOW, Fairbanks Youth Boxing, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school basketball teams and Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption. The Kruckenbergs family-owned company provides training and employment as participants in the Fairbanks Private Industry Council, according to ASB.
During its 20 years of business, ACE Hardware/OK Lumber has grown from three employees to more than 45, and has been in the top 100 Ace Hardware stores for seven years.
Angie has been an active member of the Alaska Women in Business Conference, traveling to Russia with the conference and serving as hostess in Fairbanks to international guests. Norm is exploring the possibilities of a timber industry in Russia through the International Business Development Center.
