SUBJECT:            Science Potpourri 2002

LOCATION:         UAF Natural Sciences Facility, Yukon Drive

DATE & TIME:     Saturday, April 6, 2002, noon to 5 p.m.

Let your senses be your serendipitous guide to the Science Potpourri at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Natural Sciences Facility.

Take a tactile trip under the sea by way of the marine Touch Tank or visualize a virtual voyage through scientific data in the Alaska Region Supercomputing Center’s Visualization Lab. Those more active adventurers can kick around kinetic theory during the chemistry department’s "Dangerous Demos" or figure out the scientific principles behind matter and energy during "Physics Phun" Science Theater presentations in the Boyd Lecture Hall.

Undergo a hair-raising experience with the van der Graff generator or slip into the sloppy side of science by making your own slime, and whet your appetite for destruction by making simulated tidal waves, earthquakes or flood a miniature town. Peer into what’s living in your backyard pond water and examine bug specimens with the electron microscope. Sit and spin on a turntable to demonstrate angular momentum, dip into design by making you own tie-dyed bandana or pet a perky reindeer from the Large Animal Research Station.

Free parking for Science Potpourri is available in the lot behind the Natural Sciences Facility located on Yukon Drive between the upper residence halls and the UA Museum. This event is sponsored by UAF’s College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics.
