SUBJECT: Fall Semester Begins With More First-Time Freshmn And Lower Costs: CLARIFICATION
The following points clarify information provided in news release 01-012 distributed on Wednesday, Aug. 30 regarding UAF's fall 2000 semester:

Student course fees of $40 and under have been eliminated.

Annual parking fees for students have dropped from $225 to $139 per year. Parking for faculty and staff has dropped from $225 to $199.

The UA Scholars program gives $11,000 scholarships to Alaskans who graduate in the top ten percent of their high school class. The scholarship amount was previously reported as $10,800.

UAF will host 13 National Merit Scholars this fall, four of whom are new this semester.

The Human Achievement Scholarships for volunteer service in the community will be awarded for the first time ever this semester. There have been no previous years this award has been given.
