UAF Women's Center
There is a place at UAF where students, faculty, and staff can gather for lively discussion or quiet contemplation. The Women's Center was originally established at UAF in 1982, and today offers a forum for experiences that help women and those who care about them to transform themselves and society. Its educational programs seek to link individual personal creativity to a life lived in community which reflects the diverse views of those in all walks of life.
The Center provides support, advocacy, and the opportunity to transform concerns into action. It serves as an advocate for gender equity throughout the university and encourages inquiry into gender issues by all. Men are welcome in the Center, and welcome to participate and become involved. The center's programs are relevant to everyone. It is our mission to provide a strong informational network for all members of our community.
The mission of the UAF Women’s Center is to advocate for, provide resources to, commemorate the achievements of, and empower women, LGBT persons, and their allies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and beyond.
The center strives to create an atmosphere in which all people are free to affirm and celebrate their differences, including but not limited to differences of gender, race, sexual orientation, class, age, religion, physical and mental ability. In accordance with UAF’s mission statement and strategic plan, the Women’s Center is charged with educating the university and the community about gender-related issues, and with providing space and an environment to support women in their cultural, spiritual, social and intellectual lives.
