Fundamentals in Supervison Certification

- Criteria for Fundamentals
in Supervision Certification
Supervises at least 1 full-time employee (including student employees)
Supervisor of Record
Conducts hiring, performance evaluation, and/or recommends corrective action

Training
Managers and supervisors are encourage to complete sixteen (16) hours of management
training every three years. Ten (10) hours of the core requirement are as follows:
"With All Due Respect" Preventing Sexual Harassment (2 hours)
Drug Free Workplace (2 hours)
Achieving Performance Objectives
(2 hours)
Evaluating Performance (2 hours)
Cultural Awareness (2 hours)
The remaining six (6) hours can
be satisfied by attending any other career development or professional development training offered by the university or outside
the university. The UAF Office of Employment Opportunity offers EEO/sexual harassment training. Credit for attendance will be reviewed and approved by the
HR Training Coordinator.
- Not Just For Supervisors
Employees who do not currently meet
the established requirements for Fundamental in Supervision Certification
are still enouraged to participate in the individual seminars. Attendance
is tracked and the individual participating will receive career development
credit. Human Resources will provide employee development opportunities in
areas targeted to enhance overall career development (i.e. How To Properly
Recruit and Hire, PPA Training, Working as a Team, Motivation).
Additionally, there are training and development opportunities to enhance
work skills and prepare for advancement in an employee's chosen career.
- Keeping on Track
Every attempt will be made to notify
everyone affected by the Fundamentals in Supervision requirement, but the
responsibility for timely completion rests with each individual. New hires or newly promoted supervisors are encourage to complete the Fundamentals in Supervision requirement within
three years from date of hire or promotion. No seminar attendance hours will be carried over into the
next three-year training cycle.
Refresher training should also be completed after the initial requirements are met. For each three year cycle, supervisors are expected to complete 16 hours of training in the management or professional development area. Classes can be taken from a variety of vendors.
