Nomination of Representatives

Each year, half of the 14 units of Staff Council are elected by the staff. The terms are for two years and even numbered units begin serving January of an even year (e.g., 2008) and odd-numbered units begin serving on January of an odd numbered year (e.g., 2007). Units are established to match the organizational structure of UAF. Staff Council is a recognized method by which we are able to address staff issues in the workplace here at the Fairbanks campus. While the role of Staff Council is advisory, we can have an impact.

Staff Council is now taking nominations for the even units to begin serving January 2008. UAF Staff Council representatives must be permanent full-time or permanent part-time non-faculty, non-student employees. University employees who hold executive appointments are not eligible. There is one representative for each 50 staff members, so some larger units have more than one representative. There is also an alternate representative for each representative that serves to make sure that each unit is adequately represented.

To nominate an individual, you should select the form for your unit, make sure the person you are nominating wants to serve and that their supervisor signs the form. Serving on Staff Council is considered university business and adequate time is supported by Regents policy.

Signed nomination forms should be sent or delivered to the Governance Office, located in Signers Hall Rm. 312 / Box 7500 / fax 474-5213. Nominations should be received by 5:00 pm, Fri. Nov. 2, 2007. If you are sending a nominations form by mail (intercampus or otherwise) at the last minute, please let us know at 474-7056 or fystaff@uaf.edu.

Elections will take place during the month of November. While we have been working on having on-line balloting, this election will be held by paper ballots distributed by a selected person in your unit or a department office in your unit. Staff Council representatives and alternates that are not seeking nomination will also be utilized to distribute ballots. You will receive an e-mail from Staff Council announcing elections and should receive a ballot shortly thereafter.
