The Fairbanks North Start Borough School District just approved their 2001-2002 and I obtained a copy of the calendar yesterday. Coordinating the spring break days for the school district and university has been important since many university personnel have children in local schools. The school district has made a significant change in their 2001-2002 schedule in that the fall semester will end before Christmas. With corresponding changes to the spring semester, their spring break dates are March 18-22. Our dates are March 11-17. I believe it would be fairly simple for our calendar to be changed so that our spring break coincides with that of the school district. This would amount to these two changes: Last day for student and faculty-initiated withdrawals-change from March 22 to March 15. Spring recess-change from March 11-17 to March 18-24. Since schedules, vacations, athletic events, etc., are sometimes planned several years out, I suggest that these changes be approved as soon as possible. Please contact me if you have any questions.
