2008-2009 SCHEDULE OF FORMATS AND DEADLINES
FOR ACADEMIC COURSE & DEGREE PROGRAM REQUESTS

Following approval by the respective school/college dept. head, curriculum council, and dean, send Course Paperwork to one or both of the following offices, as appropriate (please reference each Format for its' specific submission instructions):

        Electronic copy is preferred by the Governance Office, and the hard copy with original signatures is required. If you send an electronic copy of the course request to fysenat@uaf.edu, you do not have to send more than one additional copy along with the original signature copy, except as noted in the table below. The sender of the electronic file(s) will receive a reply from fysenat@uaf.edu to confirm receipt of document(s).

NEW NON-THESIS RESEARCH/PROJECT (-98) or THESIS/DISSERTATION (-99) COURSE: FORMAT 1C
Submit originals and electronic copy to Governance/Faculty Senate Office

    October 17, 2008 or March 2, 2009*** for 2009-10 academic year. (1)

NEW TRIAL COURSE* (-94): FORMAT 1
Submit originals and one copy and electronic copy to Governance/Faculty Senate Office

  • Current Cycle Deadline:
    September 12, 2008 for Spring 2009 (1)
    January 9, 2009 for Fall 2009 (1)

*A new course is not required to be offered first as a trial course. Trial courses may be offered up to three times under the original paperwork submission. They may be offered any time after approval, not necessarily the 'next' semester after submission/approval.

NEW OCCUPATIONAL ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM - FORMAT 3A
Submit originals, 1 photo-copy, and electronic copy to Governance/Faculty Senate Office


NEW DEGREE PROGRAM (includes new minors*) - FORMAT 3
       A draft prospectus will be a required submission along with the Format 3 request in the future.
Submit originals, 2 photo-copies, and electronic copy to Governance/Faculty Senate Office

  • Current Cycle Deadline:
    October 17, 2008 for Fall 2009 pending all approvals, including the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities which has 90 days to review the new proposed program AFTER BOR APPROVAL. Note that the program will not appear in the UAF Catalog until after NWCCU approval. (1) (2)

*New minors do not go to the UA Board of Regents for approval; so, the BOR Summary Form and NWCCU Prospectus draft do not need to be included in the paperwork submissions.

In order to facilitate a timely review of your course or program request:
  • Remember to allow time for all approvals (department head, college/school Curriculum Council, dean) and send requests to the appropriate office noted for the form by the deadline date.
  • Send full request in appropriate format.
  • Send an electronic copy AND a hard-copy request with all original signatures to the Governance/Faculty Senate Office, except as noted above.
  • Governance and the Registrar's Office can not be held responsible for course paperwork sent to the wrong address and thus received past the deadline. Please address your submissions completely and with care. Correct addresses
  • Please do not combine graduate and undergraduate requests .
  • Use a separate format form for each course request.
  • Academic year beings September 1.
  • There is a 10-day period for comments and objections after items are received at the Faculty Senate Office (before review by committee).

  • Notations:

    **Major program changes are to be processed similarly to new programs.
    ***Items submitted for the spring review cycle (March 4, 09) will not make the printer's deadline for the print UAF Catalog; however, they will be included in the addendum section of the online catalog.
    (1) The Governance Office will forward for Provost/Chancellor approval.
    (2) Provost/Chancellor will forward to Statewide Academic Council for Board of Regents' approval process.
