To new students, welcome to UAF! To returning students, welcome back to UAF for another exciting year!
Starvation Gulch is our traditional way to kick-off the school year and to pass on the "Torch of Knowledge."
Starvation Gulch began back in 1923 and is our oldest and one of the most favored tradition on campus.
6 teams compete to create flaming structures in the hopes of winning "Most Creative" and/or the "BIG ASS FLAME" trophies.
ASUAF, your student government, hosts a free BBQ for all students at the fires. Also for the past few years, clubs have hosted booths with baked goods, hot drinks, and tasty dishes along with fun entertainments, such as the car bash and pie -in-the-face, as a fundraiser.
February 24 - 25, 2012
The long cold winters in Alaska often makes us want to stay inside, drink some hot coco, and sit by the warm heaters... Unless your a Nanook!
Nanooks aren't afraid of the cold. We embrace it. Winter Carnival is simply a way to remind our students the beauty of the Alaskan winters.
Winter Carnival revolves around outdoors winter activities like snow sculpting and winter sports, like our favorite Nanook Hockey. Don't miss the Governor's Cup Hockey Game that happens during Winter Carnival!
April 26 - 28, 2012
SpringFest is our way to celebrate not only the end of the long winter, but also the warmth and our accomplishments of the year!
The long weekend kicks-off with a Free BBQ for all students, faculty and staff. While at the BBQ, you don't want to miss the Dance-off or the Watermelon drop! Following the kick off, the weekend is packed with many more fun and exciting activities such as the Mud Volleyball Tournament, Field Day and A Headlining concert.
Don't forget that All Campus Day, (the second day of SpringFest) started so that students can give back to the campus and community. Make sure to sign up with the L.I.V.E office for SpringFest Service.
This is not an official Nanook Tradition.
The Breakfast Latenighter was sponsored by the board for the very first time on December 12th, 2011. Since we are fully funded by the students, we wanted to host an event that will benefit the students at UAF.
At the event, we provided free food, tutors were available and several gaming systems were set up for students.
