Job Posting Summary:


TYPICAL DUTIES: Assist the Facility Supervisor in the operations of the Toolik Field Station (TFS), a remote field camp located at 284.5 Dalton Highway. Primary daily tasks consist of moving and storing supplies, loading and unloading trucks, transporting station residents, incinerator operation, cleaning tasks such as sweeping and moping floors, dishwashing, cleaning/stocking bath and shower facilities. Additional duties include the operation and fueling of snow machines, 4-wheelers, and pick-up trucks, filling in for Field Operations Staff on days off, assisting with on-site set up and post season closing of the station, assisting the facility supervisor as needed, and assisting the maintenance supervisor with station maintenance and emergency fuel spill response. The station is very busy during a short field season. This position requires working under pressure as well as independently, working with a wide variety of faculty, staff and students, working in adverse weather conditions, and performing tasks accurately. Point of hire is Fairbanks, AK.  

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Proof of Valid Driver's License at time of hire; the successful candidate will be required to provide a copy of Its Social Security Card at the Time of Employment Knowledge of snow machines, prefer some knowledge of general maintenance.

Skills in basic hand tools, driving trucks, painting, cleaning, camp maintenance tasks, basic fuel handing and clean-up procedures, dishwashing.

Ability to work with a large number of researchers under time and pressure constraints of busy field season, lift 80 lbs., deal with a wide variety of personalities, work under adverse weather conditions, live at a remote field camp, willingness to be flexible and assume responsibility for tasks assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position and to have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Preferred remote field camp experience.

WORK HOURS: To be arranged, 3 weeks on, one week off rotation with other FOAs.

JOB DURATION: Full-time April 1, 2006 through September 15, 2006, possible work in October depending upon reservations.

TYPICAL DUTIES: Assist the Lead Assistant Cook in the operation of the Toolik Field Station (a remote field camp located at 284.5 Dalton Highway) food service facility for 10-100 people, 7 days a week. Primary daily tasks consist of assisting the cook with preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner mealsl, baking desserts and bread. During the absence of the Lead Cook, this position will function as a replacement and other occasions as needed. Additional duties include restocking self-serve areas, food storage areas, dishwashing, unloading food shipments, organizing and cleaning food service preparation/service areas and equipment, driving station van, assisting with on-site set-up and post season closedown of the station, moving and storing supplies, loading and unloading trucks, transporting station residents, burning trash, station clean-up tasks. This position requires working under pressure as well as independently, working with a wide variety of faculty, staff and students, and performing tasks accurately. Point of hire is Fairbanks, AK.
