The following is general information regarding auditions and productions in the Theatre UAF Season - view season information here for information on the upcoming productions.
Audition notes from the Fall, 2008 Directors: |
| Mainstage Production: The Laramie Project LARAMIE is an actor-driven script consisting of roles for 4 men and 4 women, each of whom play approximately 10 different characters. |
| Winter Short: The Author's Voice Roles include 2 men and 1 woman all in their early 20's. |
Winter Short: “Acting without words” is, like the title suggests, a silent theatre piece. It is pretty short, I’d say only about 15 minutes. However, it is a challenge to entertain an audience without saying one single word and still show them who you are and what your goals are. This play is also very technically challenging for the crew. Therefore the tech people need to be there through the entire rehearsal process as well as the actor. Tech people are equally important as the actor in this play. I will need 1 actor and 3 or more crew people for this play and if you are interested in the technical aspects of theatre this is a fun way to get hands on experience! |
To Audition you should first fill out an audition information form (available on the "pocket" outside of the Theatre UAF Box Office door) or on-line here (a 38k file - small) (A pdf file which requires Adobe's free Acrobat Reader plug in to view) and return it (if the office is closed, please slide it under the door) to the UAF Theatre Department Office located in the Great Hall outside the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre.
You should also "sign-up" for a morning monologue time-slot (required of all shows) and for afternoon time slots for whichever shows you are interested in.
For the morning monologue you should choose two short pieces to perform - best would be contrasting styles (Example: one funny, one serious). For children or new actors, two short stories would be acceptable. Costumes are not necessary.
For the afternoon you will be doing "cold readings" (when the director asks you to read a selection from the script) and "scene work" (when the director asks you to read through a scene with another actor / auditioner).
Remember to be on time for all your audition appointments!
On the SDA Board, by the sign up sheets (located to the left of the Great Hall near "Graffiti Hallway" / by the scene shop) there are tentative rehearsal and performance schedules for all the Shows. These calendars are also available on-line here Please consult it when answering questions on the Audition Information Form. While not all actors are called to all rehearsals - nevertheless the process is time consuming.

You should feel encouraged to look at the scripts which are available on reserve in the campus Library under course Theatre-101 (THR 101).
