Best Practices in Telebehavioral Health in Alaska

This Institute is designed for Mental Health Professional – Rural Coordinator teams to enhance their ability to respond to the unique challenges presented by telebehavioral health care. We encourage mental health professional - rural coordinator teams to register as a team for this Institute. Individual participants will also be welcome.

Session Outline:

► Pre-skills readiness development
Audio conference October 1, 2007 at 12:00 noon (1 hour)

► New skill development in face-to-face sessions
October 16, 17 & 18, 2007, in Fairbanks
(17 hours)
Please note that the institute starts on the evening of October 16 at 5 p.m.
and dinner will be served. October 17 & 18 run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
with lunch served both days.

Topics to include:

• Standards of telebehavioral health practice
• Ethical telebehavioral health practice in rural areas
• Establishing protocols for client care and client confidentiality
in the telebehavioral health setting
• Effective use of telebehavioral health video conference technology
• Coordinating necessary paperwork requirements

Participants will have an opportunity to practice video conference skills using a variety of video conferencing equipment.

Total Credits: 19

Continuing Education Credits (CEs)

This Training Institute will offer participants who complete the entire institute a total of 19 CEs. 3 CEs will be dedicated to ethics, 4 CEs dedicated to Alaska Native cross-cultural competency, and 4 CE’s will be deticated self-care/vicarious trauma.

Continuing Education Credits for LPAs are available through the Alaska Psychological Association. AK-PA is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education programs for psychologists.

A Note about Rural Preference: The Alaska Rural Behavioral Health Training Academy gives preference to behavioral health care providers working in Rural and Bush communities.

Costs

The registration fee of $245 includes certificate for CE credits.
