Controlled burn sends smoke through tunnels Residents of Chandalar Drive got a rude awakening early Sunday morning, after a University training exercise sent smoke and carbon monoxide pouring into their homes... Hot chocolate costs has ASUAF seeing red Who knew hot chocolate could add calories and kill budgets at the same time? Scholarships easier to apply for than ever Say good-bye to all those essays, transcripts and
letters of recommendation letters, because starting this year, applying
for more than $600,000 in UAF scholarships requires only a single piece
of paper... |
Editorial:
I do not hate Fairbanks First of all, I want to extend a huge hand of appreciation to Jeff Stepp, the Student Activities office, and the UAF Concert Board. Congratulations on a simply incredible evening with Morgan Spurlock. The Davis Concert Hall was filled to capacity and everyone--students, faculty, and community members--had a great time. The lecture was informative and entertaining and just down right wonderful... Guest
Opinion: The Snow Removal Blues Three
cheers to the UAF Facility Services for snow removal.
Hip, Hip, Hooray. Hip,
Hip, Hooray. Hip…(silence)…yeah
that's what I thought... Nate Raymond briefly mentioned the fall 2002 Student Regent election in his Nov. 16 article about recent Florida-style ASUAF elections. I was the candidate for student regent who was first disqualified and then reinstated in that election... Before commenting, shouldn't the author completely educate himself on the issue? I'm
writing to express my surprise and disgust regarding the 'Barbie Show'
that was recently featured in the Art Department's gallery.
It's sweet and all that it's Barbie's
'Birthday', but why dedicate a two-week period to an
"exhibit" that is nothing more than a glorified rummage sale? Prices are visible on many of the 'pieces' (read: collector's
dolls) that are being 'shown', making me wonder--is the Art Department
now advocating the sale of collector's items through their gallery? |

"The Clown Doesn't Eat the Food" This past Friday, Student Activities hosted Morgan Spurlock to a sold-out crowd in the Davis Concert Hall. Spurlock, director of "Super Size Me," delivered his message concerning America's health with an engaging combination of relevant statistics and stand-up antics. The Sun Star was lucky enough to obtain a one-on-one interview with Mr. Spurlock before the show to talk about college eating, making low-budget movies, and why America's so fat. What follows is the edited transcript of that event... Club

Nanooks
falter at Top of the World In
the locker room after Sunday's loss to Western Michigan University,
Coach Frank Ostanik had some words of wisdom for the Nanook Men's
Basketball team. "I
want to win so bad fellas," he said.
"But you guys gotta want to win, its gotta come from you.
If I'm paying for some of your school, than your guys' play has
to be outstanding." Golden Knights battle their way to Top of the World The team that traveled the farthest was the most successful at the 2004 BP Top of the World Classic... UAF Rifle Team Wins Fourth Straight Match The University of Alaska Fairbanks' rifle team made it two wins in a row on the second day of their three-match road trip to the east.
