The future as written by a feminist

With Women's History month upon us, it is a great time to reflect on some great feminist literature. The name that tops them all is the famed Canadian poet and novelist, Margaret Atwood. This out-spoken woman, who makes no apology for being what she is, (female writers take note) has won the Booker Prize twice, the Giller Prize in Canada, and in Italy the Premio Mondelo. She has written thirty books, with "The Handmaiden's Tale" being perhaps the best-known work. In "The Handmaiden's Tale," a work that is often misinterpreted as being anti-women,  she told of the future that was in store if women didn't practice solidarity and allowed a total theocracy. In her eleventh novel, "Oryx and Crake," she tells of a future if everything is controlled by science.

Election Improvements Needed

During the last ASUAF election, a lot was said about the failures of the senate and the elections board to organize an effective environment for student elections. Little advertising had been done and the candidate forum received little attention. Around $500 was poured into an election that resulted in only 127 votes, only 2% of the student body. I ran for senate and won with only 99 votes.

UAF Fees To Increase. Are They Justified?

Concerned about rising tuition costs at UAF? Well, hang onto your wallet.

FRAT HOUSE

Look as hard as you want, but you won't find any "Animal Houses" in Alaska.

UAF Hockey

After securing home ice advantage for the first round of the CCHA playoffs, the UAF hockey team hoped its seniors would end their Nanook careers with victories at the Carlson Center March 12-14 against a team they had already beaten twice this season.  As it turned out however, the Northern Michigan Wildcats' defense was just too strong, thanks mainly to the inspired performance of their second string goalie who blocked an incredible 65 shots.

Letter to the editor

Although there have been some great book reviews in the past, I've recently noticed that there haven't been any in the publication in sometime. This is disappointing to the readers out there who read books regularly and are interested in knowing other's opinions about read books and also what's good and what's a waste of time for books they have not read. I, and others I know, used to enjoy reading these and thought that they made a nice addition to the rest of the Sun Star.

Rifle shoots down sixth NCAA title, many UAF athletes honored

The 2003-2004 school year has been a good season for UAF sports as the Nanooks have brought home at least one NCAA championship and numerous student athletes received individual honors in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Movie Review: "Starksy & Hutch"

The original David Starksy and Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson would be spinning in their graves, that is if they weren't still alive and had lucrative cameos in this new film version of their hit ‘70s TV show.
