Nike Cup

Nanooks came in 15th after the first day of competition at the Nike Cup Thursday Nov. 15.  Despite several swimmers shaving seconds off their time the Nooks only had one  swimmer who qualified for the final sessions Thursday night.  Freshman Mariya Pavlovskaya went on to the finals with an NCAA “B” time standard in the 200 yard I.M.

The competition today was intense," said head coach Scott Lemley in a press release. "Times that would have taken a swimmer into finals last year didn't come close this year."

Day two of the competition proved better for the Nanooks who had three swimmers advance to the finals on Friday breaking two team records in the process.  Sam Zinsli, Kelly Becker, Kinsey Laine, and Mariya Pavlovskaya made up the 800 yard free relay team who shattered the previous relay time by nearly seven seconds.  Mariya Pavlovskaya then went on to break another team record in the 400 I.M. by over two seconds landing 19th place in the event overall.

The ‘Nooks held steady in 15th place after the second day of competition with a total of 81 points while UCLA continued to set the pace having nearly twice as many points as the second place Brigham Young University.
