Outswam by N. Colorado

The Nanook swim team hosted Northern Colorado this weekend. Despite record- breaking performances by freshman Mariya Pavlovskaya and two first-place finishes by junior Samantha Zinsli on Friday, the Nanooks couldn’t get a lead and the Golden Bears won the meet 132-83. Saturday Northern Colorado bettered Friday’s performance and took the Nanooks 135-64. The Nanooks won the 400 IM relay, and Pavlovskaya again broke a team and pool record.

Runners finish season

The Cross country team ended their season this weekend at the NCAA West Regional meet. The men finished 16th out of 19 teams and the women finished 18th out of 23 teams. Jani Tulppo again came out on top for the Alaska men with a 32:22.59 time over the 10-K course. The women’s usual top runner, Anna Coulter, did not travel with the Nanooks in order to focus on the upcoming ski season. Her sister Julia, however, did finish on top for the Nanook women with a 38th place finish.

Volleyball loses

Thursday the Nanook volleyball team lost their match against the University of Western Oregon 3-1. The Nanooks won the first game, but could not control the Wolves’ momentum throughout the rest of the set. Sophomore Megan Thigpen led the Nanooks with 12 kills and 15 digs in the match. Saturday the Nanooks were swept 3-0 by St. Martin’s, after losing junior setter Sedra Zlock to a sprained ankle Thursday, and senior Jessica King to a dislocated thumb during warmups. Junior Korlyn Bolster led the Nanooks with eight kills and no errors in 16 attempts.
